Backups

Websites can break for many reasons: faulty software updates, network problems, defective hardware, electric surges, viruses and malware, hacks of all sorts, and the list goes on. We do a lot to protect your website against these and other threats but nobody can ever prevent them all.

Backups are every website’s last line of defense. When even the most resilient infrastructure breaks down and all the protective layers fail, the only remaining recovery option is to use backups.

Every website should have backups, and business websites doubly so. But just having backups isn’t enough because even backups can fail. A good backup strategy is essential to ensuring your website can survive if anything happens.

When you get a hosting or care plan with us, we back up your website in three different ways and store the backups on different platforms.

  1. We install one of our professional backup plugins on your website and set it up to back up your website at least once a day. We store these backups remotely on Wasabi‘s resilient S3 cloud storage and keep them for at least 30 days.
  2. We run daily file and database backups and store them remotely on Google Drive for at least 30 days. Google Drive is Google’s resilient consumer cloud storage platform.
  3. We back up your server and keep at least two backups. These are full server backups stored on-premise and are only used when everything else fails. Depending on where we put up your server, the backups will either be daily or weekly.

You can also add your own scheduled backups using the installed backup plugin. Backups can be stored on your own server, though it’s almost always better to send them over FTP or to a Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive account.
